Executive Board Elections (2020/2021)

Elections will take place in early February of 2020 based on scheduling and availability of the voting general body.

How to Participate
How to be Eligible
  • Must be a student at the University of Georgia through the upcoming fall semester.
  • Must have attended at least two general body meetings or events during the past term.
  • Indication to slate down to any position must be made BEFORE opposing candidates begin any speeches (i.e. during the nomination process) and they must have listed the position as one of interest on their application. Entering the race following another candidate’s speech will not be permitted.
  • Completion of executive board application must be done by Sunday, February 2nd, at 11:59 p.m. ET .
  • However, you may choose to retract your application at any time if you choose not to run.
How to Nominate
  • Nominations are due Friday, January 31st, at 11:59 p.m.
  • A nomination is NOT required for a member to participate in elections.
  • The Elections moderator will reach out to the nominee to either accept or reject the nomination prior to the application due date.
How to be Elected
  • A majority of voting members present at the time of elections.
  • A member qualifies for voting privileges if they have attended at least 2 VSA GBMS or EVENTS.
  • Candidate must receive a majority vote by anonymous ballot.
  • In the event of a tie, the exiting Executive Board will deliberate and vote.
Election Process
Rules
  • All positions will be listed on the board.
  • Moderator will call out the names of those who completed the application and confirm whether they would like to continue in elections.
  • In the event of a candidate’s loss, they are given the option to slate down to another position of interest that they indicated on their application. Those that slate must announce their intention to run BEFORE the first nominee of that position speaks.
  • Elections will be facilitated by one or two neutral parties who have given up their voting rights to ensure a fair and smooth election process.
  • Timing is subect to change based on number of candidates running
Format
  • The order of elections will be: President, Internal Vice President, External Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Relations, and Historian.
  • Each candidate will get 3 minutes to speak and will be cut off if they go over.
  • For President, each nominee gets 5 minutes to speak.
  • Following candidates' speeches, there will be a brief Q&A section where questions may be asked by the voting body. ALL questions must pertain to ALL of the candidates and cannot be specified to only one.
  • The first two questions will be selected prior to elections and asked by the moderator.
  • The last two questions will be asked by members of the general body.
Voting
  • Following Q&A, candidates will be asked to leave the room and a deliberation period of 10 to 15 minutes will begin.
  • After deliberation, every member gets a sheet of paper to vote anonymously.

  • In the event that a nominee does not get the position they ran for, they have the option to slate down and run for another position.

  • General supervision of all affairs related to VSA.
  • Delegate tasks for executive board members and make sure they are all completed.
  • Preside over all meetings, including general body, executive board, International Student Life (monthly 1-on-1 meetings, Leadership Linkups, and Leadership Summits), and UVSASE President calls (all presidents, sub-group, and 1-on-1 with UVSASE IVP).
  • Create meeting outline and lead executive board meetings.
  • Create yearly calendar for all VSA-related events (UGA VSA, internal and external orgs).
  • ISL
  • Act as direct liaison to ISL advisor.
  • Reserve equipment for ISL and make sure they are returned (clean and dry).
  • Re-register VSA as an organization through ISL and UGA.
  • Manage VSA’s UGA Involvement Network page.
  • Manage roster and sign up for involvement fair tabling.
  • Sign up UGA for UVSASE Olympics.
  • Submit all players and coaches.
  • Act as Co-Executive Director of Night in Saigon.
  • Instill and promote pillars in all VSA related events.
